This has nothing to do with Amtrak, but I personally think this is one of the saddest pictures of a train I have ever seen.
After the Canadian Oil Train derailment in La Megantic, Canada, last year on the MM&A railroad, the railroad that ran those trains (and the one pictured above) started to suffer heavy financial losses due to all the people who’s lives were lost (47 people killed), as well as court proceedings, lawyers, cleanup costs, etc.
But they told their crews to tie down their trains where ever they were……
…..and just leave them there. They had no more money for operations. No nothing. They simply couldn’t keep trains running anymore.
So this train has been sitting here for a YEAR now, and if you look for it, you will find it still sitting there, right at this railroad crossing.
The Dash-8 locomotive #8583 is waiting. Waiting patiently for a new crew that might never come back. At least, not under the MM&A railroad….. -Mike
